Intro:
Canadian farmers face more competition than ever. To help them succeed in a global marketplace, the Atlantic BioVenture Centre has created a portable micro-factory that extracts valuable nutraceutical and bioactive products from farmers' base-crops. This means Canadian farmers now have new products to sell to a global market allowing them to maintain a competitive edge. CEO Richard Ablatt says this innovative project will allow producers in smaller rural communities to make better use of what they produce:
Quote from Richard Ablett, Chief Executive Officer of the Atlantic BioVenture Centre in Truro, NS:
"The beauty of the micro-factory is that it actually allows them to convert exportable finished higher value or higher margin functional ingredients captured from the basic resource but using local labour. So we are able to upgrade the rural community at the point of production."
